Hey, hello, and howdy! Welcome to Astronotes #175, which marks my first "anniversary" as #163 was my first Astronotes. This last year has been a great run but I am afraid that this is it for me. It was a hard decision to make, but this is my last Astronotes.
      I want to thank each and every one of you who supported me this last year. I can never say how much I appreciated hearing all of the kind words of encouragement and appreciation from all of you. They are what kept me going. {Someone told me that the trailer that I saw for the Solomon Kane movie is from the U.K. and that it was low budget using old school type special effects, fight sconces, etc. Apparently the actor playing Solomon Kane did most of his action scenes - which are supposed to be pretty intense - and was on the verge of collapse by the time they finished shooting. Not everything coming out of the U.K. is gold but this not being a Hollywood CGI smorgasbord makes seeing this movie even MORE appealing to me. Unfortunately it may just go straight to DVD here. Either way I am really interested in seeing it.}

      Collecting the first twenty-six issues of the Marvel Comics Star Wars series that launched in 1977 (the same year as the first film), this first volume of Star Wars Omnibus: A Long Time Ago... is a must have for any Star Wars fan! Future volumes will include material not previously collected along with the consecutively numbered Marvel run: the comics adaptation of Return of the Jedi, material from Marvel UK, the Droids and Ewoks series, and other rare Star Wars comics. {Call me a nostalgia junkie but I am so happy that Dark Horse is re-releasing the old Marvel Star Wars stuff in trade format again - and for $5.00 U.S less! It's going to be smaller than the first edition, but it'll be more complete (and not out of print). Unlike the current Star Wars comic fiction the old stuff had a flavour all onto its own that was both Marvelesque and uniquely original when it came to the direction of the story. At least as far as I'm concerned, anyway. For current readers of Star Wars comics I'm pretty sure that the old Star Wars stuff will generate one out of these two possible reactions: 1) Cool! How retro! Or 2) Yuck! Too retro! Can't please everybody.}

It was always on my "to read list" and I am happy that my patience for this (I assumed that they'd do a soft cover when they solicited the hard cover last spring) has paid off.}

The last ones they did were for Buffy and Umbrella Academy back in mid-2007! This may well be a trade to consider. The only problem that I have with it is that Dark Horse is soliciting the trade and #4 at the same time! How very Marvel of them!}

Fortunately there are 3 trades of the series out there and this is a great, cheap way to try it out. The story is about Ancient Greece and the Trojan War. The art, from what I remember, was beautiful. So try it for a buck!}

Has the whole Red Hulk saga dragged on a bit too much? Yep. Is the story any good? As a fan of the Hulk I think so. It's not the greatest that I've ever read but it's certainly been entertaining. The problem with the Red Hulk saga is that Marvel has made it a huge event when really it doesn't need to be and reads well as a Hulk story. In my opinion. You can try it out for a buck and decide for yourself.}
